Dave Tang

Dave Tang passed away this morning. I knew him through my friends from Grip Video, and he was a great guy. In real life, he stood literally a foot and a half taller than me and he was Chinese. I could go on about how incredibly fucking unfair it is for someone to die of cancer when you're in your early 30's, but I won't. He knew his time was short, and he made the most of it. He's no longer suffering, and for that I am glad. Instead, I'd like to remember him the way he probably would like to...

Has anyone noticed that the toddler rape suspect's name is <i>Chester</i> Stiles?

Never, ever name your kid Chester.

"If I were a transformer that transformed in to a Buick, I'd probably always be a robot."

Oh man, that's so true. Anyway, hai everyone. I'll be back to blogging soon.

Ugh. Had to redo the water lines.

Ahhh idiocy. I made the original water lines off the car, then mocked up the intercooler piping with the engine in the car. Then I put the engine in and discovered I'm not so clever after all. The compressors can't be clocked any other way since I'm using the internal wastegates, and making...

The correct counterweight for the flywheel came in the mail yesterday! Engine can be complete now.

Water Pump Housing

The water pump housing is on the front of the engine and is incredibly fugly when you take the air pump off. The housing incorporates a backet for the air pump that just stick up with nothing attacked to it. As part of the polishing, I had the entire bracket section chopped off with...

Turbo polishing

The last few weeks, I've been polishing The Dave's engine pieces with a bench buffer we bought. I thought I'd post a few pictures. The pieces are shinier in real life. Some of the black smudges you see in the pictures are oil, fingerprints or patches of rouge I haven't wiped off yet. Since I'll keep getting the engine dirty as I assemble it, I'll do a final cleaning later when engine is permanently in the car. It's already been in and out twice for various reasons....

Wow. Merry Christmas.

Wow can tonight suck any harder? I'm waiting on one stupid piece to get my car running again after I rebuilt the engine. In the mean time, I've been borrowing my roommate's moped. He bought it off his friend, modified, and no one quite knows how to work on it. Tonight, after waiting for a...

And excellent example of what makes Jenn so great. We were at Aloha Tower Marketplace last night when she starts laughing at this Starbucks. I asked her what's so funny, and she replies "that space...used to be occupied by a store called "'endangered species."

Wow. Now that's a <i>great</i> place to put a price tag. In the world of retail merchandising, is it more important to have the price tag on all DVDs in the same location....or is it maybe a little important to not cover the title so that it says something completely...
